La Cimbali Italian team at SIGEP 2015

This weekend, and during next week, the La Cimbali Italian team will be exhibiting at the world’s great SIGEP 2015 EXPO event at the Rimini Fiera, Italy. It is the 36th international exhibition showcasing the artisan production of gelato, pastry, confectionery, chocolate and bakery, and this year includes the exciting Italian Barista Championships. Previous shows have attracted both the sector’s international trade members and large investor’s from outside the industry, and this year is going to be even bigger with over 175,000 trade visitors from all around the world expected to attend.

This sensational event is dedicated to the trends in food that are eaten away from the home – and coffee plays an important part in this. The exhibition brings everything together under one roof as an unique trade fair, including an entire bakery section, an extensive range of quality artisan products, and new innovative industrial technology demonstrating first class food and beverage production.

The event has further expanded with an even higher quality product range on display and many eagerly anticipated competitions including; the SIGEP Gelato d’Oro which will select the finest ice-cream makers for the Italian team for the 2016 Gelato World Cup, the amazing pastry events to find the junior world and national pastry champions and demonstrations by the great masters in these fields.

The 2015 Barista and Farmer Reality Show also starts at SIGEP where 10 competitor finalists will eventually contend for victory in San Pedro Sula, Honduras in February. This unique talent show combines two key categories of the value chain – coffee growers and baristas. The organisers believe that barista and farmer speciality coffee and quality coffee can boost the development of the entire chain, from training trade members in the countries of origin, to production of excellent products by manufacturers, through to new cafeteria formats that promote more consumer awareness. All this stimulates the launch of further business opportunities, supporting new trends in the lifestyle of countries consuming coffee.

‘La Cimbali UK’s Coffee Specialist, Rob Ward says “The competition season is now in full swing around the world, with regional heats and semi-finals through to national finals happening to decide who will be selected to compete for the prestige of being named World Barista Champion 2015! It has been great being involved as a Sensory Judge this year and seeing the talent that we have working in the UK market. The UK semi-finals, and finals being held at ScotHot in March will see the climax of the UK competition, and I am looking forward to seeing who will be crowned UK champion. La Cimbali will be exhibiting at ScotHot directly across from the competition stage so come along and see the La Cimbali team and final presentations of UKBC!”

The Italian Barista Championships at SIGEP run from Sunday through until Tuesday, and come straight after the Austrian event and continue the momentum that is building up to the finale – the World Barista Championships being held in Seattle in April. Good luck to everyone competing.
